Individual Manual Perspective Drawing

Firstly, I had learned how to draw using perspective drawing. This process was an extremely unique procedure as I had never learnt about this procedure before. Moreover, we had learnt from scratch on how to draw lines, to drawing milk cartons . This process was therapeutic as it made me relax my mind while drawing.  Here is a perspective drawing of a coffee maker, like the one I had mentioned about in my previous blog.

Secondly, you guys might be wondering about the appearance of the diffuser, as well as the components in the diffuser. Well, here is a perspective drawing of the diffuser.

Practical 2- Cardboard Joinery 

For this practical, we did a cardboard joinery model. You guys might be wondering what our product is.  Here is a sketch of our cardboard joinery.

You are probably wondering what this photo is about. Yeah, it looks extremely messy but here is another picture of the cardboard joinery.

We are going to make a chest!!!!!!!!

This is a picture of us planning on procedures and the steps to make a cardboard chest. We had to make sure that every team member was vigilant and aware of the procedures for smooth completion of the experiment. 

 We wanted to make something unique and useful for usage purposes. We planned to make a storage equipment. However, we did not want to copy ordinary containers. We wanted this product to relate to young kids so that they can easily store products and also feel proud of their storage equipment. We wanted to make a chest, like the chest in the popular video game, Minecraft.

We first made measurements of the parts to cut out. These parts were the structures that support the base of the chest. Here is a picture of my group member, Hai Teng, drawing out the structure of the cardboard model.

And here am I, drawing replicas of the sides of the chest.  You can also see my group member, Wei Ling, drawing the connection of the chest.

After this process, we had used tape to attach the cardboard pieces together. 

And here is outcome. Well, this was only the base of the chest. There was still a lot more to do.

Here is my teammate, Wei ling , working on the hinge,which connects the top part of the chest , to the bottom part of the chest. The joinery method we had used for the hinge was L- brace. 

 

We had used the joinery method ,such as zip tiles, to connect 2 storage compartments,which were located in the chest. 

We attached the pieces of the cut cardboard together.  We had to make sure that the measurements were accurate.

And here is my teammate, Isabella and me, putting extra tape around the cardboard to secure the structure.  

We added eyes and huge teeth to the chest, to make it look comical. Moreover, we also used green wire as hair for the chest. We had used the joinary method called wire.

Here is the second layer and third layer of the storage compartment. It can be removed from the chest if in need to store more products. 

And this is the completed product!!!!!!!

Reflection

Before attending this practical,  I had extremely little knowledge about cardboards as I only had used them for packaging things. Although I knew that a lot of models could be made with cardboard, I had not made cardboard models previously. Although I took design and technology in secondary school, I had not learned anything about cardboards. I also had not learned anything about cardboards in previous modules. The knowledge I had about cardboard models were the links that were in the practical manual, which led to websites and videos about the fundamentals of cardboard modelling. Thus, I was extremely doubtful and terrified when I was conducting the practical as I did not have hands on experience on making cardboard models. Thus, I had relied on my design and technology knowledge and the links and the videos about cardboard models. However, I was wronged as the session had gone according to plan most of the time. As my group had already made a sketch of the cardboard model , going about the practical was lesser difficult. There were only some times when I had made some errors. For instance, when I was cutting the shape of the base of the cardboard joinary, my hands were shaky sometimes, which had led to the uneven sides of the cardboard joinery. Moreover, I had to prepare 3 more of the same cardboard cut outs. This was an extremely difficult task to do , as the cardboard edges that we had cut were jagged and I could not simply put the cut cardboard on the remaining cardboard piece and trace the cardboard, for cutting. I had to rectify the cut cardboard to make sure that all the sides were straight and even. There were also times when I had to draw more pieces as I had cut the cardboard in the wrong direction,causing me to restart the process. This made me reflect on my hands on skills. I had not practiced using scissors for a long time, and thus struggled to simply cut a cardboard. Moreover, I had also stumbled upon using a pen knife.  When I was taping the cardboard pieces together, it was extremely difficult to hold the cardboard pieces together and tape them together , as I would often let go of one piece of the cardboard while doing the taping process. Moreover, when I was making the hairs of the product, I had to insert the green wires through the holes. Although I struggled to put in the wires through the holes at the start, I managed to quickly pick up the skills and successfully finish it. However, this were the only few times when I had faced difficulties. Most of the time, I picked up the skills of using the scissors and pen knife and was able to use it successfully after a few tries. My group mates were extremely co-operative and inclusive. We discussed and made sure that everyone had an equal part and made sure to notice every group member's opinion. As a result, my group had very few arguments as all of the group members were busily occupied doing their tasks. Moreover, I felt escetic as I was able to contribute my part to the fullest. This practical made me realise that I should also pay attention to my practical skills and not only rely on the knowledge based on books, videos and websites. For the next practical, I would want to take note of the practical skills involved in the practical and practise doing the practical skills before the practical. Moreover, I would also watch extra videos and look through more websites for extra and relevant information regarding the practical. 

Reflection on Two-point perspective Drawing 

Before this module, I had never came across two point perspective. Although I learned drawing and sketching in primary school, this experience was a whole new experience for me. Two point perspective drawing was a tedious process for me as connecting the lines to each other from one point was difficult. Although I had practiced some two point perspective for this module, I had still found it difficult as the drawing is supposed to be a drawing of a coffee maker. I had tried my best to produce a top notch drawing. Despite almost giving up several times, I had continuously tried to finish the drawing. I had realised that I should practice more of two point perspective drawings in the future.

Reflection on Fusion 360

 Before this module, I had never used applications like Fusion 360. Although I knew about 3d printing, I had never done anything related to Fusion 360. Therefore, using this app to construct a photo frame was an extremely new experience. It was also an extremely difficult procedure as the application had many functions and choosing the wrong function would lead to a totally different output. I had struggled in finding certain functions to carry out the steps . This made me reflect on my knowledge towards this app. Following the procedure was also an extremely exhausting process , and I often felt like giving up certain times.  However, I did not let my emotions come in the way to hinder my progress. I had learned to persevere and carry on in the construction of the photo frame. Moreover, before the next Fusion 360 project, I would watch videos in YouTube about Fusion 360 to enhance my knowledge and understanding on the app, as well as to make sure that I can easily function using the app.
